How to read a brand's Meta ads in ten minutes
Open the public Meta Ad Library, choose the advertiser's Page, and read four things: how many ads are live over time, how long they run, how many distinct messages they carry and where they send people. Then turn each observation into a question, because the library shows what ran, not what worked.

The method
- 01
Open the Ad Library and set the country
Go to the Meta Ad Library, choose the country you sell in and 'All ads'. Search for the brand by name and pick its Page from the suggestions, so you see that advertiser only rather than every ad that mentions the word.
- 02
Count what's live, then switch to all ads
Note how many ads are active today. Then include inactive ads and look back three to six months. The shape over time says more than today's number.
- 03
Read the start dates
Each ad shows when it started running. Ads that have run for months are not bad in themselves; ask whether new work is shipping alongside them.
- 04
Group the messages
Read the primary text and headlines and group ads that say the same thing. Many ads with one message is focus or a stalled test; you can't tell which from outside.
- 05
Check formats and versions
Look for video, static, carousel and 'multiple versions'. A narrow mix can be deliberate; it's still worth asking why.
- 06
Follow the click
Open the landing pages. Does the ad's promise match the page it lands on?
- 07
Write questions, not verdicts
Turn each observation into a question for whoever runs the account. What you can't see (spend, results, audiences) stays an open question.
What each signal can and can't tell you
| Signal | Can suggest | Can't tell you |
|---|---|---|
| Live ads over time | Production rhythm; build-up before a season | Budget or results |
| Start dates | Whether new work is shipping | Whether old ads still perform |
| Message groups | Strategic focus or a stalled test | Which one it is |
| Formats | Breadth of creative supply | Placement or audience strategy |
| Landing pages | Ad-to-page match | Conversion rate |
